Under this guiding principle, the cosmetician Charlotte Meentzen founded an "Institute for Natural Cosmetics" in Dresden in 1930. In the same year, together with her sister, Gertrude Seltmann-Meentzen, she founded the company "Charlotte Meentzen, Heilkräuter Kosmetik" (Charlotte Meentzen, Medicinal Herbs Cosmetics) with the aim of producing and marketing skin care products using herbal active ingredients.
